Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
If you are looking for a harsh and critical beta-reader, then stop reading. I'm the type that will try to help you grow as a writer by highlighting FIRST your strengths, then kindly point out your weaknesses. I hate tearing apart budding young writers with harsh criticisms, especially when it has to do with characterizations or keeping with canon. In my opinion, fanfiction is an outlet for fans of animes, games, books, movies etc. to write out their own story of their beloved characters. Therefore, I strongly believe each person is entitled to their own take on a character and the world that they are creating.
I have two ways that I can beta for someone:
1) Basic revisions - just grammar and spell check
2) Additional input - on top of grammar and spell check, I can also give advice on the story. Like point out where it is lacking, rearrange a sentence/paragraph so that the story and ideas flow more coherently. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Since I graduated with honors and received a BA in English Literature, I excel at analyzing and critiquing literary works. I love delving into a story and discovering the underlying meaning behind the words. Therefore, I'm able to assist with creating symbols and possible plot devices when needed. Furthermore, since I used to help my classmates with their paper revisions, I'm excellent at catching most grammar and spelling mistakes. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I tend to rush the plot at times with my own stories, but mainly because I know that I probably won't ever get to the good parts if I don't write them then. I like to stay with the canon, but oftentimes the pairs that I love aren't. So, I usually tend to write my characters a little OOC since they are paired with someone else other than who the original story suggests. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
My favorite pairs that I will always be willing to beta are: Quistis x Squall & PeneloxBalthier. But I'm usually flexible and willing to read other pairs as well. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
No yaoi or yuri please! And I absolutely abhor Squinoas and BalthierxAshe so please don't ask. |
