Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I prefer that the individual who requests my services to also provide a short summary of what they are trying to accomplish for the story and for the current chapter. Nothing to big, a couple of sentences, just enough to help me understand what direction they want to take their story in. Example for the story: "This story is about the importance of avoiding nuclear war." Example on chapters: "This chapter covers the difficult trek of the characters from A to B and their growing friendship with each other."
While I read the story I will make corrections, changes, and suggestions. Corrections and changes will be underlined to help you find them. Suggestions will be inbetween parenthesis and highlighted in bold to set them apart from the rest of the narration. All of these are simply ideas on how to improve the story and is ultimatly up to you if you want to use them or not.
I also find that beta reading is useful to not only improve the story but also on the skill of the writer. Please do not me overly critical of my criticisms, I only wish to help improve your talent so that you might not need my help in the future. |

I am willing to work with and read across a very wide range of story types. I find spelling and proper grammer are very important to convey a story to the reader. True, you might not consider it very important since these are not professionally published stories but, nevertheless, if your reader can't understand what your trying to say then don't be surprised if you don't get many satisfied readers. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I do not understand the need for Yaoi, Yuri, or hentai stories. Thus I find it very difficult to read them. Even I sometimes fall victim to missed spelling errors and grammer bloopers, but I do try to avoid them at all cost. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I enjoy a wide range of stories. I am willing to betaread any type of story except for those themes covered in my 'Not My Cup Of Tea' category. But if I had to pick and choose then I would prefer to read stories containing one or more of the following elements: epic adventure, war, self discovery, crossover, and/or overcoming tragedy. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I prefer to not review stories that contain elements of stories containing Lemon (pornographic) themes; especially the themes of Yaoi (Male-on-Male love) and Yuri (Female-on-Female love) themes. Also, any story that contained gratuitous use of profanity.
I also don't really like stories that end in the worst possible way. I'll still read them, but I'd prefer not to. |
