Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
While I admit to not having a lot of free time to sit down and write fanfiction myself, I would still like to help contribute to my fandoms. I will do what is typically expeceted of a beta reader, such as bring a new set of eyes to a fic and spot anything that the author may have missed while origionally writing. Also, should anything come to mind which I feel may help a fic I will suggest it to the author.In the end, however, the fic is entirely the author's and I am merely offering myself as a tool. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have a strange tendency to point out plot holes just watching a tv show, let alone when reading fanfiction. I'm not afraid to use google if it means an acurate portrayel of something based on truth, or any other means of research necessary. I also have little problem spotting when a character is OOC. Granted, there are cases where this is understandable or even necessary for the story, but don't be surprised if I tell you that Dracy Malfoy is too nice and should be more of an asshole.
Oh yeah, and the whole grammer/spelling/punctuation thing as well, but I would hope every beta reader checks that. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I personally don't have much experience with romance, or sex for that matter. If your looking for someone to look over your epic romance or that steamy scene in the back of the car, your best off looking somewhere else. However, fluff and stories where romance is not the entire focus are no real problem.
I'm also quite blunt. I try to be polite but if your fic is beyond redemption I'll tell you.
Also, this is not so much a weakness as a small detail. I'm canadian and as such will add a 'u' to wourd like colour. If this is an issue for you or your fic please let me know. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Yaoi, Yuri, Het, it's all good. There are very few, if any, pairings I will not read. I tend to like plots based more on action than romance. I'm also not an overly-huge fan of AUs, especially high-school ones. Crossovers between my favourite series delight me to no end though. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Anything non-concensual or involving minors in mature situations.
While I do understand that computers can be funny sometimes and mess with your formatting, I would strongly prefer the use of paragraphs as opposed to one giant block of words. Also, I will completely ignore anything in script format. While wonderful for works which are to be preformed they don't work quite so well for your typical fanfiction. Of course, there may be exceptions such as a charcater reading from a script within a story, but a whole fic written in script will be introduced to the delete button. |
