Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
My name is Lena and I'm a college freshman who is majoring in Creative Writing. I have been a member of ff.net for a very long time and have read stories here since God knows when.
Usually, you can find me here in the summer months, the reason being I take on less work during school in order to focus, but I'm pretty much on-air all year round.
Those who wish me to beta for them can expect that I will be able to finish a short chapter within a day and a longer one over two or three depending. The easiest time table for me is a weekend, where I can read two or even three of your chapters.
As a side note, I have no problem reading any kind of mature content whatsoever. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I pay very close attention to detail. In my own writing, I love to express not just the characters, but the world around them; their emotions, the setting, background, clothing, everything. Those finer qualities that are usually glossed over by writers I will try to enhance so that your work will shine.
Also, I obsess over characterization. In all my own work I strive to keep whichever character I am writing about true to himself or herself. If this is a problem for you, I will be glad to help.
Finally, I am not only enthralled with the details of a piece, but with the dialogue as well. I consider dialogue, as well as characterization and detail, truly one of my strong points.
Oh, and If you are having trouble with your plot, I can do wonders with the direction of your piece. I am overflowing with ideas and I won’t be hesitant to pass them right along. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Unfortunately, I cannot spell. I can read for fluency and flow and grammar, but because my own spelling is not as refined as I would like, I generally would not recommend myself as your beta-reader if you are in need of a human spell-checker. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I am mainly focused on the Harry Potter, Jane and the Dragon, and Munto fandoms.
In the first, I focus on the pairing of Draco and Hermione; I am truly obsessed with the two. Any romance, drama, action, angst, (etc) fanfiction that revolves around those two characters is perfect.
For Munto, my favorite anime of all time, I love Munto x Yumemi stories, but I also was the first to post any Rui x Ichiko fics here on the site. Either couple is perfectly fine!
With Jane and the Dragon, like Harry Potter, there's really only one couple I write for, and that would be Jane and Gunthers. Sorry all you Jester fans!
But don't think that your limited to these three series, any other category that I write for I can beta for as well. I only write fanfiction for stories I truly love and have a good grasp on. However, I am most familiar with those mentioned above.
Oh, and I also especially enjoy long fiction, but I will still beta for you if you have a Oneshot or somthing, so no worries. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I am not a fan of humorous or satirical pieces, they just don’t entertain me.
Also, I normally don’t read a lot of Songfics, but if you are absolutely positive it has potential, I will try and muscle through it.
The biggest problem for me is if your story has blatant OOC’ness. If this is a problem or if you find yourself inserting Mary-Sues or Gary Stus in your writing, I suggest you not request me as a beta-reader.
One last point, I promise. If you have a tendency of staring a story and losing interest in it, thus rendering your fanfic incomplete or ‘dead’, please do not have me read your work. It would pain me to put so much effort into something that we'll never see the ending of. |
