Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I've betaed things for people before, so it's nothing new for me. It can be done the same day or the next depending on what time it's sent at (if it's just a grammar check) and so long as school work isn't in the way at the time. My style is basically this: I won't change anything significant or that'll mess with the plot unless given permission to do so. I'll just be looking out for grammar mistakes otherwise.
Requests should be sent via e-mail as a Word document attachment with the subject line 'Beta Request.' Spam is my hated enemy so if the subject line just says something like 'hi' it might be deleted without being opened. Make sure to include some sort of instructions on what you'd like me to do for you as well. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm a grammar whore, so punctuation, spelling, and rewording of sentences are my major strong points; everything will be looked over with a careful eye. (I hate finding them in my own work, but if it's already been uploaded I find myself too lazy to fix it. This won't happen with your story though, promise.) I can also help with storyline--making sure it flows, it's coherent and it works--and I am available to bounce ideas off of when in a pinch or unsure of what to do next. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Descriptions of things/people isn't really my strong suit, so if you want descriptions beefed up or things like similes added I'd be of some help, but very little. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'd rather it be slash/shounen-ai/yaoi than anything else, but I won't turn down any het. Any genre is fine. Other than that, yuri I'm a little iffy about. I don't go looking for it, so I don't really know how things would go past a T-rating, but femslash/shoujo-ai I can do. I'll beta just about anything really... |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
...except for stories in which an OC is the main focus, especially if it's a Mary Sue. If they're just there to be plot devices though, it's cool. Also, for the Bionicle fandom, I won't beta anything that has Lewa paired with a girl, even if it's Gali. The LewaxGirl pairing just squicks me to no end (mostly 'cause he's my favorite character). Sorry. |
