Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello. I'm offering up my services as it'll give me a sneak preview into stories! Kidding! No honestly I'm here because I love a whole range of fanfic out there and, whilst there's so many good ones, there are those failing to be all that they can. Often this is through no fault of the author, mistake creep in when you stare at the same page for too long, and I know what it's like to learn all this without a beta-reader.
I've just finished my last year at Uni and am job hunting now so, whilst I will read anything sent to me within a day, the reply may be delayed a few days. If you come to me I will be honest with you. I dislike fluffing around, but I am friendly and give encouragement. Read my bio if you want to know more about me. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm a nitpicker. Ask any of my friends. I spot continuity errors a mile off as well as contradictions and things like that. I will point out if you reuse a word over and over or find the layout particularly hard to follow.
I'm a biologist so anything in that area you might need help with I can point you in the right direction as well as being a bit of a nut on cars. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm dyslexia, so I might not spot spelling or grammer mistakes. If a character is not a favourite then I might not be able to tell if they're in character. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
No preference to types of story. I will read anything, but I do like violence, romance, fluff and have a weakness for slash. I will happily read 'hardcore' stuff (any sort). I'm open minded and will take in original characters as well the core ones.
Will read: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Codename: Eternity, Crusade, Due South, Supernatural, Transformers (Movie, G1, Animated) (Currently watching Headmasters, Energon, Armada, Cyberton, RID, Animated).
Will take a stab at: Angel (missed S3&4), Firefly & Serenity (hard to get into characters for me), Babylon 5 (this will take me longer to get back to you on), Stargate SG:1 (Only seen to the destruction of Abydos), Star Trek: DS9, Voyager and Enterprise, but it's been awhile since I've seen them. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
There are some pairings out there that send me running for the hills but you will have to run that passed me on a story by story basis. I'm game to try but don't say I didn't warn you.
Will not do TF: Beast Wars, cause it confuses/scares me.
