Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
To put it simply, I'm a readaholic. Reading is what I do, my job is just a means to an end. Unfortunatly that same job is the curse to most of my time, while there I'm MIA to the world. If you request me as a Beta and I accept, expect a fan as well as a beta who, when he is there, will bug you with fanboy level detail. I don't complain when peoples spelling/grammer isn't exact, but I will demand that the story resembles basic english level sentences. I am the 'Number One Hyperactive Lazy Bum', understand that name and you will go far with working with me. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am very particular about paragraph spacing (i/e: where to break it into multiple smaller ones rather than one long paragraph), I am good at breaking verbal matchs (times when stories become just one spoken sentence responding to the last) with discriptive add on's, I prefer backing up whatever I support with canon-facts (I will aways try and get details as accurate as possible given the level of AU the story will be) |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Time is my biggest weakness. As stated in my profile, when I'm not here I am unreachable (which is usually 12 hours at a time at best). My second major weakness is my ADD, if your story loses my interest, my betaing will get progressivly worse until you're better off dropping me like a bad habit. And if I don't know anything about the series you're writing about, I am completely useless to you. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I love 'Return to the Past' stories, AU stories that diverge from very simple changes, and if you do a cool crossover I'll love you forever. Romance, Comedy, Friendship, Action, Adventure... my likes go on and on. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Angst, Horror, Character Bashing, etc... - my mood refect my reading, and I hate being put into a bad mood.
Guy-Guy, Girl-Girl - unless it is clearly stated in canon that those characters are gay, I will reject such pairings, especially if they are the main figures for your stories.
High School fics (in stories that were not originally set in/arround High Schools) -this has been beaten like a dead horse and already picked clean by vultures, stop the torture.
Girl/Guy Band fics - I don't care about how cool it would be if your favorite characters rock out to your favorite songs. Text is text and music is music, something is lost in the transition that cannot be salvaged. |
