Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm new to beta-reading here on FFNet, but would love to give assistance where I can. I'm not really sure what else to say here, but feel free to contact me if you have questions.br /

Check out my preferred/not preferred sections. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm great with spelling, and the more confusing aspects of the English language (yes, I can tell you which their/they're/there you need, as well as it's/its, and things like that). I think I'm good at identifying when a character is out of character too, in the fandoms that I know at least. In my own writing, I'm good with coming up with more unique ideas for stories; not something we've all seen fifty million times over before. I also am great at keeping stories from becoming "she said, she said, she said.." by coming up with alternate words. "she suggested, she asked, she replied" whatever. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not a comma-wrangler; I think that I can tend to overuse them myself, but I'm happy to proof in this area anyways. I'm not terribly great with monologue/conversations between characters- yes, I can write them, but not to the wonderful extent of some of my favorite authors here. I know a lot of words, but I dont' usually SPEAK using long and complicated terms, so that is a bit harder for me to do in writing as well. (however the thesaurus is my friend!) |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I am open for virtually any Labyrinth-themed fictions, or Harry Potter-themed fictions. These are my strongest fields as far as what I write myself, and I am absolutely OBSESSED over them, so I can help find flaws with the story such as timeline issues, spells, ect. I don't have problems reading/betaing the more graphic, violent, or gory stories, provided they are written with a purpose. Smut isn't a problem - I read quite a few of them myself. :) Prefer pairings of characters that are at least plausible in the world they come from- even if they're not in the story/movie.br /

I'm also willing to beta any other Disney-themed fics (I've seen most of the movies), I think I'd be good at Star Wars fics also, and anything beyond that is definitely open to offers. Please don't take it personally if I turn down a beta request- it's just that I don't feel I know the field well enough to be able to help much. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Not a fan of stories that are graphic/violent just for the shock value of it. I understand that they are tools to be used in storytelling, but just for the sake of it, no.br /

Also not a fan of pairings/slash/whatever that isn't canon pairings. Harry is never going to pounce Snape in a dark corner of the dungeons- I'm sorry, but no. (This isn't to say I'm against female/female pairings, or male/male... Just keep them plausible!)br /

I'm not a big fan of "Famous Book or Movie Character/Alternate Character Who Is Totally Based Off Myself" fictions. Or crackfic type pieces. |
