Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'll admit that I haven't betaread as much as I've written, as is the case in most situations. But if asked to, I take into account three important factors: (1) the writer's foundation, which is your original writing style - this is something I would want to keep intact; (2) grammar and spelling - I am going to major with a degree in Creative Writing and so I feel that in every sense, this is very important; and (3) your characters - a beautiful portrayal of characters often leads to a successful story. I have not listed anything plot-wise simply because it is your job as the writer to conceptualize and lay the groundwork. I may call your attention if some characters seem a bit out-of-character, or if one scene jumps too quick to the next; however, to protect your foundation as I mentioned earlier, I will only ever give you vague ideas on how to improve your work. This rule does not include technical errors. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
If you are fond of flowery descriptions and a varied number of punctuation marks, I honestly believe that we will get along splendidly. I don't know if you can consider this a strength as well, but I also have an ability to point out chemistry in any fictional situation. Ask me for my opinion, I will give it to you. Though perhaps reading some of my own work will help you understand what I mean. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Clearly, I am far from perfect. As a betareader, I will require as much as a week to go through your story again and again, depending on its length and my availability as well. This is to catch the errors I was not able to take down the first time. Successful editing means that I am going to read through your story at least three to five times, definitely more - this is not an exaggeration. Don't let this intimidate you though, it's my job. Also, even if I can read just about anything, I am not very well-versed with suspense, horror and the like. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Category-wise, I have a large number of fandoms for you to choose from. My livejournal has a more complete list. And by fandoms, I mean not only animanga I write fanfiction for, but also ones I generally follow and am quite confident with. I take any sort of pairing, though at this point in time, I am more inclined to accept het or straight romance, and yaoi (BL, shounen-ai, slash, whatever you call it). |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
The one thing that really ticks me off when reading fic is character bashing, it just ruins my day. So if you have that in your work, please don't come to me. If you aren't sure, well, I suppose I can read through it. I won't give you a sermon for most part - I just won't be as friendly maybe. |
