Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hi - I'm currently in my senior year of college, majoring in Creative Writing with a minor in Literature. I've been betaing since early high school, and I've always had a passion for nitpicky English. I also have a fetish for British English, and while I'm not as perfect as a native British person, I know a lot of the spellings and slang. I've always loved reading, and that's how I've acquired most of my English skills.
I will be somewhat blunt betaing your stories - I'll tell you what's wrong, though not in excessively harsh terms. I also try to always find something to compliment you and let you know what you're doing right.

I do expect a note in the author notes of a chapter/story crediting me as beta. And no, I do not ever guarantee 100% perfection. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
English mechanics (spelling, grammar, punctuation); general style, cutting down unnecessary words, story flow, believable characterization (for characters/fandoms with which I'm familiar). In my writing, I'm especially good with dialogue.
I can focus on whatever you want to, though it will cause me pain to ignore mechanical issues. |

I can't always explain why a certain word is the right one. As a writer, my biggest challenge is adequate and original descriptions in narration. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
For Hellsing: Integra/Alucard, Integra-centric (especially the teenage years), or stories centered on Integra and Walter's (platonic) relationship.
Harry Potter: I can do anything, but my OTP is Lily/Severus; I also like Minerva (and Minerva/Tom) and Remus-centric stories.
Ouran: Kyouya-centric, Tamaki/Haruhi (or anything about either of those characters); Mori and Kaoru are also awesome.
A Song of Ice and Fire: I wouldn't want to beta some of the hardcore scenes Martin writes (especially the gory/tragic massacre or torture ones; graphic sex is fine, though), though I'm not entirely a wimp. My favorite characters (therefore the ones I'd feel the most comfortable critiquing) are: Daenerys, Arya, and alive!Catelyn. I can probably handle any other fairly major character, but don't expect me to know a ton of minor characters or houses. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Nothing heavily gory or disturbing.
For Hellsing: anything heavily featuring Seras, Iscariot, or Millenium, or shipping Integra with anyone but Alucard. Anything where Integra or Walter die/something terrible happens to one of them without a happy ending. Sorry, I'm sensitive.
Ouran: Nothing dark, and no Kyouya/Renge, please (unless it's fairly light and not the focus of the story). I'm not too fond of Honey shipped with anyone. |
