Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hi! My name is Ann. I'm 24 years old with a Bachelor's degree in Creative Writing. Currently I live and work in Kochi, Japan as an English teacher. Feel free to contact me! |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am an expert in grammar and punctuation. I have a good eye for detail and I read over each word to look out for errors. I am also semi-competent in the Japanese language and, since I work in seven Japanese middle and elementary schools, I'm a good authority on the Japanese school system. This should be useful for anyone looking to be accurate in their fiction about Japanese school-age kids. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I have a tendency to analyze to a fault, especially with the fiction I love. This comes from all those semesters spent dissecting literature in college. I can't write sex scenes, so if you want help there, you'll only get the grammatical from here. I'm also poor at action scenes, but getting better. I can't write comedy to save my life. I'm just not that funny. Also, it may take me a few days to get back to you, especially if you email me on a weekday. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
My favorite kinds of stories are Man vs. Himself. I’ll read anything deep and introspective; anything that pertains to the triumph of the human spirit. I also enjoy comedy, despite my inability to write it. I like fantasy and supernatural stories as well as science fiction. I will eagerly read fairy tails re-imagined, provided there is enough to link between the two stories. I'll also read crossovers with the same reservations. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I will not read anything about depressed people getting more depressed. I will not read lemons or any kind of fruit. I am open to slash, but as long as it's not just an excuse for the two characters to get down. I need some explanation to justify it all. I will not read anything if you insert a non-cannon character into your story as a prominent lead (in other words, Mary-Sues) And finally, DO NOT ask me to beta just to correct your grammar. If your work is too full of errors, I will refuse to read it. |
