Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
A few of my friends (MorbiDreamscape, Twilights Moon) and I already beta read each other's work so I have some experience but not yet a long list of definitive traits to my reading style. I also proofread for my mother, a doula and freelance writer for both WebMD and Lots of Kids.
If you don't see a particular genre/category in my list, please don't automatically think I do or don't read fanfics from that particular show/book/etc. I might not have been introduced to it or found it in the preferences' search list yet. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Spelling, punctuation, and practicality are all strong suits I have in my writing style. If you can come up with a fantastical idea, I can come up with a way of making it sound feasible. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I can be brutally blunt when noting frequent errors and am not very good at word choice variety yet. Unfortunately, I'm also a procrastinator. As such, I look for books/stories that can keep my attention through to the end.
For those who didn't or who've forgotten to paragraph their stories, I will (repeat WILL) paragraph for them. It's a major peeve of mine among online fics, makes it extremely difficult to read. This particular trait can be both a strength and a weakness, however as I'm also rather blunt in my criticsm, I've listed it as a weakness.
I also don't feel I've mastered the vivid portrait of objects and scenes in stories but I'll let you judge for yourselves if I'm good enough in that department to be your beta-reader or not. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I absolutely love Sci-fi/Fantasy novels and adventure stories with a preternatural, sometimes fantastical flair, can't get enough of them. I also like spiritual art and literature, though not necessarily religious works (if that makes sense). |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I can't read through the entirety of "M" rated stories, they're almost always too violent/explicit for me. Nor will I read stories that encourage any kind of prejudice and hateful discrimination. Plays usually bore me to the point that I leave the room or fall asleep (There has only been one play I've ever been able to watch all the way through, Saturday's Warrior, and that took several tries and about 10 years before I finally succeeded in watching it all the way through). |
