Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
NINEE'S BETA PROCESS:
1) Read the previous chapter (if applicable) to refresh my memory about what's going on.
2) Read the passage I'm working on once through for pleasure, noting things to remember when betaing.
3) Read the passage for sentence fluency and word choice.
4) Read the passage for spelling and grammatical errors.
5) Read the passage for plot fluency and to check for any plot holes.
6) Read a final time to make sure I got everything.
I mark all of my edits down on a separate page within the document, so that you can change them back if you disagree with my advice. I'll also make comments on that page regarding aspects I like or dislike about a chapter, kind of like a review before you post the chapter. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Spelling fixes, word choice, sentence fluency, plot holes/ |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not the greatest at all grammar rules; I have to look things up most of the time. Oh, I also like to use a lot of emotes when I'm reviewing or writing notes in the margins because I find it hard to convey the inflection of my words over writing sometimes. (I write as I speak.) |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Complicated plots that make the reader go on and read the next word. Cliffhangers are good.
--At the moment, I'm really up for anything, though. Bring your story on! :D |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Mary Sues are the bane of all human existence, and I will not beta any story with these wretched creations in them. PWPs are close up there. |
