Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I read everything carefully, and pick out any mistakes that I can see. I know most people use a spell-checker, but if something looks right to a writer, they won't change it, and it's always been one of my pet peeves to see even a small mistake in an otherwise brilliant story. I have no expectations of someone wishing my services, because really, if I had expectations of them being a wonderful beta reader themselves, they wouldn't need me. I also prefer to beta for fandoms that I'm familiar with, so that's anything I've written for, and a few others. Although, if you decide that you desperately need me and it isn't for a fandom that I'm familiar with, I shall have a go. Google is wonderful for finding out information about different fandoms! My favourite areas are Firefly, Chuck, Vampire Academy, Harry Potter and anything by Jennifer Crusie, but I'll take a look at almost anything. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Erm... I hate boasting. My best sections have to be spellings, and punctuation. Great for a beta-reader, eh? |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm English, and so therefore I beta in English spellings. But of course, if you do require my services, and it's an American story (either set in America or speech said by Americans) I will change my habits. I'm often not too good with being a walking thesaurus, but I do try my best if a word really doesn't fit. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
For the moment, with RL being as cruel to me as it is, I'm only accepting shorter stories (like, one-shots, and less than about 40,000 words). Although exceptions can be made, especially in the Firefly and Chuck fandoms (Firefly/Chuck crossovers are the Holy Grail to me), generally I won't be accepting longer novels. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Again, no preferences! I'm not too good with crime and horror, but I'll try my hand at anything! |
