Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm native German, but have been learning and practicing English for almost two decades. If you read my stories and think I might be good enough to beta your English ones, I'm honored; still, I can't promise I will do it. Despite my experience with the language, I'm certainly not perfect. There's no harm in asking, though; whether I accept depends both a bit on my mood and your story. I may, however, be able to help non-native speakers should you want to write a story in English. If you have a story in German, you can of course ask me any time. I will do my best to not only correct any mistakes (spelling, grammar), but also - only if you want! - improve your writing by changing some words and sentences. I have about ten years of writing experience.br /

Ich schreibe seit ungefähr zehn Jahren; seit 2008 auch in Englisch bzw. inzwischen nur noch in Englisch. Mein Englisch ist sicherlich nicht perfekt, aber ich denke, inzwischen ziemlich gut, und vor allem gut genug, um zu helfen, wenn du dir mit der Sprache nicht so sicher bist, aber trotzdem in Englisch schreiben willst. Ansonsten korrigiere ich jederzeit Stories in Deutsch. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Generally, my strength is composing texts like a composer creates a song. I try to not use the same words too often, and "special" words only once. I want it to sound perfect, colorful, lively, and I want my words to captivate the reader. I'm good at studying emotions and expressing them through words. As long as it doesn't fulfill a certain purpose, you'll never find short and simple sentences or speeches without a description of how the speaking persons feel and talk in my stories. I write stories, no scripts. So if this is about expression, about word choice and style, I may be a very good source and beta.br /

Für die deutschen Leser - wenn es Ausdruck und Grammatik geht, dann seid ihr bei mir genau an der richtigen Adresse. Ich kann helfen, mit ein wenig Umstellen der Sätze und Austauschen einiger Wörter den Klang der Story zu verbessern. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Forming good plots always takes me long. I'm a perfectionist and do my best to avoid any plot and continuity errors, but that takes a lot of time and work. So it's not exactly my strength, something that comes to me easily; therefore, it's nothing I would be a good beta for. You won't hear much from me as far as your plot is concerned, though I may occasionally give my opinion.br /

Handlungen, der Inhalt der Stories, sind generell nicht so meine Stärke. Ich brauche selbst oft lange, um einen Plot aufzubauen, da ich viel recherchiere, nachlese, und alles möglichst genau und korrekt haben will. Ich mag keine inhaltlichen Fehler und versuche sie dementsprechend zu vermeiden. Aber das kostet Zeit. Daher ist es auch nicht meine Stärke, entsprechende Fehler in fremden Stories zu finden. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'm a shipper. So shipper stories are preferred, of course. I may beta the non-romantic, friendship only ones, or one shots with character studies, for example. Other than that, I will not read much. Also, I will only read and beta shipper stories with couples I like and ship myself. The list you can find in my profile, as well as in my LiveJournal. Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Slash would be the first thing that comes to my mind. I can only think of a handful shows where I'm actually able to see any slash development. Normally, I'm not a fan of it, especially when ships are made of characters that obviously aren't gay. Also, I prefer to read stories, not scripts. When you want to write a story, make it look and sound like one. As said earlier, I may help you with it, but if I don't even see so much as an attempt to write a *story* from your side, I will decline your beta request. That is, of course, only unless there is a good reason for a script styled story. And one last thing: No (main) character deaths.br /

Ich lese so ganz grundsätzlich kein Slash (Ausnahme ist Tanz der Vampire) und keine Stories zu Pairings, die ich einfach nicht sehen kann. Gut, aber wie bereits gesagt nehme ich ja ohnehin nur FFs mit Ships aus meiner Liste. Außerdem lehne ich alles, was den Tod eines Hauptcharakters beinhaltet, ab. Und dann wäre da noch die Sache mit dem Stil. Wenn es einen Sinn erfüllt und ein stilistisches Mittel, kann es okay sein, mal eine Story in Scriptform zu schreiben. Im Normalfall aber erfüllt es keine Sinn und Zweck und hat einfach nur was mit Ahnungslosigkeit oder Faulheit zu tun. Tut mir Leid, wenn ich das so deutlich sagen muss. Ich bin bereits, zu helfen, wenn es um Sprache und Ausdruck geht, wenn ich aber erkenne, dass da nicht einmal der Versuch da ist, eine richtige Story zu schreiben, dann kann auch von mir keine Hilfe mehr erwartet werden. |
