If you're fourteen and have written a Harry Potter/Naruto yaoi crossover, please choose someone else.br /

If you've written a Harry/Snape slash fic, you're already dead on the inside. There is no amount of help that I can give you. I will point out that many of you are underage, or were at one point. Did you really want to enter into a sexual relationship with someone your father's age when you were 13 or 14? I thought not.br /



br /



If you're looking for a good beta, someone who will point out all the little spelling and grammatical errors in your chapters, point out places the plot seems contrived or threads are dropped, I might be what you're looking for. I have a fair bit of informal experience and a better grasp of the English language than most of the interblarg. If you're interested, send me a message.

Strengths, in order:br /



br /



- Spelling. This includes homophones. They also happen to be my biggest pet peeve when reading fanfics, and they are far more common mistakes than even the well-educated realize. Even the best confuse effect and affect from time to time (the difference between effecting a change and affecting an outcome), and I'm fairly good at pointing these out.br /



br /



- Grammar. Normally I'm more of a technical writer, so I apologize in advance if I badger you about passive voice (even though I'm guilty of it myself, and often). I'm a stickler for grammar in most situations, but comma usage is not my biggest strength. While all of my commas are legal grammatically, I've been told I over use them in practice.br /



br /



- Plot holes/contrivances. I'm fairly good at keeping up with plot holes, and I will point out anything that seems contrived. If you're characters are too far out of character, I will point it out. If that's your intention, please make it understood.

Weaknesses, in order:br /



br /



- Commas. I'm not the best with commas, despite my grammar strengths. I know the rules for when to use them and when not to, but there's a certain amount of debate as to whether commas, though legal, are nevertheless overused in my own writing.br /



br /



- Plot building/resolution. Plot development is your job, not the betas, so please don't start asking me questions like "I don't know where this is going? Can you think of what the next chapter should be?" Outlines are your friend.

Well written, multi-chaptered fics. I'll happily beta one shots, but I just prefer multi-chaptered fics for reading long term.br /

I'll beta just about anything, assuming it's well written. I'll also beta the not-so-well written things, assuming they have some unique ideas, if all you need is a good beta to improve it.br /

In terms of pairings:br /



br /



HP - Harry/Luna. I'll beta almost any pairing, but I do like Harry/Luna stories, and you'll get bonus points for that one. It's one of the only ways I will almost guarantee that I will beta a story.br /

X-Men - Don't care. If it's really unlikely, try to do it well.
