Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I've been writing fanfics for at least 7 years now, even before becoming a member of fanfiction.net. I have taken Higher Level IB English classes all throughout high school with A's and am now taking creative writing courses at the University of Colorado. I plan on double majoring in english and computers so I can get a decent day job with computers while writing novels on the side.
I have been working on one long crossover fanfic saga since middle school. It has broken 650 pages recently and is still going.
Notably I am also a huge Pokemon nerd, and will gladly gobble up any Pokemon stories you send me. I specifically love Mewtwo.
I am willing to read stories of any length, but if you have a massive epic of 100,000+ words, you'd better be willing to put up with me doing it gradually.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am excellent with spelling (whenever I'm not typing too fast and missing a typo or two) and will catch any spelling errors you might make. I'm OK with grammar, not the best but nowhere near the worst. I will catch whatever minor plot inconsistencies you might leave in, and will critique an overall plot IF asked. I have a robust vocabulary but I try not to get overly verbose unless technical descriptions in sci-fi require it.
I pride myself in knowing the difference between a critique and a flame. I will help you get through all of your errors and improve stylistically without being an asshole about it. Granted I will NOT coddle anyone if they try to make up excuses for something I think is wrong, I still will not outright call you names or tell you your story sucks to your face. So as long as you're not arrogant or try to outright deny your own issues to my face, I can guarantee that your experience with me will be constructive and not abusive. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
In my writing I sometimes fall victim to over-exaggeration or a bit of overt emotionalism. I'm currently working on those and in my opinion have been making decent progress.
I suck at commas and love to overuse them, it's a flaw of mine that I've been working on for a long time.
I am notorious for missing deadlines and being slow. Take note of this and be careful before asking me for help if you're on a deadline or have a massive fic! |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I love science fiction and will eat it up crazily. I am also partial to adventure, action, humor and even romance if a lot of thought has been put into it. As mentioned earlier I love Pokemon, but other fandoms of mine include Zelda, Golden Sun, Fire Emblem and various others. I also love crossovers as evidenced by the fact that I write them so profusely.
I prefer to do stories chapter by chapter, in Microsoft Word format, over email. I use Word's track changes feature and send you the revised edition as an attachment, but I will also use FFNet's proprietary DocX system as well if you like. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I tend to shy away from romance if it's done in a shallow manner. If you have a 600 word Harry Potter slashfic don't come to me, but if you've put a decent amount of effort in feel free to run the fic past me.
I prefer not to read anything about Naruto, Inuyasha, or FMA. I may or may not touch Harry Potter, depending on the genre of the fic.
Lucario in a Pokemon fic tends to rub me the wrong way, seeing as I endured a bit of fan-rage after he replaced Mewtwo in Brawl. (The exception of course being Lucario abuse fics)
Yaoi not preferred.
I will give a try for categories I'm not familiar with, but that will only be for grammar/spelling, not plot. Kinda hard to assess plot for fandoms I'm not familiar with.
Leetspeak in your story will drive me up the wall if you abuse it. Having Link talk like a 12 year old AOL'er will make me hesitate to finish reading your story, let alone critique it.
I do not like stories that are written solely for the purpose of pushing your preferred pairing. |
