Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a voracious reader and often find myself cringing at inaccuracies and inconsistencies in stories... as well as being completely turned off by unreadable grammar. Having actually attempted to decipher some, I know that there are some great ideas out there that are completely squandered by people who do not bother to check their work or have it checked by others. I wish to give those stories the opportunity to see the light of day. A good idea should never be dropped because of a lack of resources. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My grammar and copy-editing skills are top-notch; I know how to use sentence structure to manipulate tone and meaning. I also know some of the more obscure grammar rules, such as the difference between 'less' and 'fewer'. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Spelling. Spell-check can only do so much, but that's why there's a Dictionary on my desk. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I love adventure. Send your characters climbing over a rocky gorge while searching out the Amulet that Saves the World, and you pretty much have me around your little finger. Other little things that are pluses are realistic friendship, since good friendship that doesn't turn into a ship is so rare these days, and dodging fan fiction cliches. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Slash. Excessive deaths. Character death is a tool, not a toy. |
