Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am somewhat of a picky beta-reader; if the premise of the story does not interest me, it is not likely I will be willing to beta the story. I am also not a personal spellchecker. I don't mind correcting spelling mistakes of course, but if it is clear the fic hasn't been run through a spellchecker already then I will probably refuse to look it over.
I'd also prefer that at least one chapter of the story already have been written. Of course I have no problem if it's a very rough draft of a chapter, but I'd really rather not beta the story in small bits and pieces.
Another thing to note is that I am American. Therefore, I will not be familiar with every British phrase and spelling, so please don't jump down my back if I point out and ask about something that seems odd to me. I will make my own attempts to look it up first, but I may not always be able to find the answer.
However, if you are British and writing for an American fandom, then please be aware that I have no interest in Americanizing your fic for you.
And of course if you still have questions, feel free to ask them of me~ |D |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Grammar and spelling are my biggest strengths. Another thing I look at a lot is the structure of the story. I pick apart sentences if they sound awkward or don't really flow well. I'll point out if your sentences are too short and choppy, or if your paragraphs are walking the line between long and big blocks of doom.
Really, if you need someone to proof-read and make sure that your characters aren't acting wildly out-of-character, then I am willing to help with that. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I can sometimes be a little lax with characterization. If something is slightly ooc, I may not always catch it because I sometimes get too taken in by the story to realize it. However, I don't ignore characterization, and I do my best to make sure they measure up to their canon selves, leaving some room for different personal interpretation.
I am also not very good at plot, so if you are looking for someone to help you fine-tune those tricky plot twists, I am probably not who you want. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I really like stories that have a lot of angst, and I'm pretty open to most things. I have a weakness for hurt/comfort and non-con, provided that it's a realistic reaction and not some type of "Character A rapes Character B, and then B realizes they like it and A and B get together."
As far as characters and pairings go, of course I have my favourites but I'm pretty open about that too, I'll beta most of them even if they don't particularly interest me much. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I will not beta anything that is Auron/Rikku, or really anything where Auron is paired with a woman. I will not beta anything with genderswitch, de-aging, MPREG, crossovers, highschool AUs, or non "what if?" AUs. I will not beta self-inserts or fics where the characters suddenly have family relations that never existed in canon. |
