Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
If you'd like me to beta-read a piece of fanfiction, I'd be looking at the very basics of your writing. No, I wouldn't critique your basic ideas or plot (unless there was a DAMNED good reason - ie 'the playstation2 sucked me into the world of [insert game here]' or your original character is an outrageous Mary Sue).
However, I would certainly look at things like punctuation, general flow of the story and word choice, not to mention things that will make your fic seem of a little higher standard. Let's face it, people would rather a well-punctuated piece of fiction than a chat-speak session any day, huh?
I'd also point out any instances where there is unwarranted out-of-character behaviour.
If you'd like to make use of my beta services, please, take my advice. Otherwise what was the point in asking?
Please also note that beta-readers are not super-beings. Things do slip through despite my best efforts, though I attempt to keep those to a minimum. After all, I'm not here to write your fanfiction for you. That's your job. I just make sure your grammar is half-decent. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My strengths include spelling and punctuation, allowing the story to flow properly and in-character. Other than that, I'd like to say I'm fairly decent at descriptive writing, and try to keep both dialogue and vocab in a story as varied as possible. |

At times, I won't know a bad, boring or cliche'd idea even if it bit me! I tend to focus more upon the grammar of a story, rather than story idea and concept. Unless, of course, it is REALLY bad. Then I'd probably notice something! |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Any epic novellisations of games I am familiar with - such as Final Fantasies 7, 8, 10, and 10-2, Kingdom Hearts, Dark Cloud, Jak and Daxter, etc. Don't mind Shojo-ai/Yuri, or any other slash. However, I do not have a strong background in M/M.
The epics don't even have to be novellisations - just something that is broad and fantastic in nature, something that is truly amazing in both concepts and themes used.
Books, Games and Anime or manga I am usually quite happy to beta, and as such, I have no problem with reading yuri/shojo-ai and yaoi/shonen-ai, so long as the writer is willing to listen! |
