Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'd like to say that I'm strict, but only about certain things. I'm a stickler for spelling and care a lot about paragraph structure. I love detailed world-building and, if selected as a beta-reader for a story I'm particularly interested in, I'll likely stay with it until its completion, no matter how long it takes.
Using Japanese words kind of irritates me as, in my opinion, they should only be used when a character is actually speaking Japanese or trying to speak Japanese. In most pieces based off of anime, the language is just switched to English for convenience so, in these cases, it shouldn't be an issue.
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm good at spelling and paragraph structure. I take well to world-building, characterization, description and, for the most part, narration. I have a knack for natural-sounding dailogue and, when asked, can help make spoken word seem normal and in-character. If rhyming becomes an issue or is a requirement at all, I can help to a certain extent. I'm okay at rhyming and only average at meter.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
As much as I'd like to say otherwise, fight-scenes are not my specialty. My fights when writing usually either seem out of place and unnatural or are in so much detail that a single fight that would last maybe two minutes in animation lag on for over five pages. Romantic scenes are also somewhat of a weakness, but are improving. I feel that every action of every character can be rationalized and explained, something that can greatly impede progress and make a character meant to be hated seem almost likable. Also, never ask me help with a song.
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'll read stories from most anime, my favorites being in either the Magical Girl style or slice-of-life style. Unfortunately, I haven't read most popular literature from this decade and I don't watch that many movies or read comics. This shouldn't stop me from betareading a story as long as description is clear and things from the story-world are explained well. I'm hardly professional, but I'm aiming to be someday.
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Not to say I won't read shounen-ai or boy's love stories, more like I'd rather not have to. It's always been my opinion that a good story is a good story is a good story (and yes, the repetition is intentional), but shounen-ai just isn't my thing. I'll still read it if it seems promising enough, but yaoi is right out. I won't read anything based off of a completed story that leaves almost no room for fanfiction, such as anything from post-movie Fullmetal Alchemist or post-end Death Note.
