Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I enjoy beta'ing - I'm pretty brutal when it comes to spelling and grammar. I also feel it opens me up to different styles of writing that I ordinarily wouldn't expose myself to. Granted, I read anything that isn't nailed down (and sometimes things that are)... I'm the type of person who will go to Barnes & Noble at 9 in the morning on a Saturday, and proceed to read until 9 that night. Oh, they love me there. :D |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Spelling and grammar. Punctuation. An eye for accuracy. Continuity. I'm the kind of person that will cross-reference facts... If you said someone was wearing such-and-such in one place, then completely contradict yourself two paragraphs later, I'll catch you for it, lol. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I tend to focus on only certain genres. Honestly, if a story doesn't catch me within the first few sentences, I find it hard to keep going and actually be interested. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Anime, sci-fi, fantasy, comedy. Doesn't particularly matter if it's book, movie, or tv-series related, I like them all. Romance of all sorts, violence, action, whatever. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Poetry. Song-fics. Just can't ever seem to get into them. The (especially for song-fics) lyrics break up the story too much to keep continuity. Regarding Mary-Sues/self-insertions... I reserve the right to change my mind on them. If someone offered me a really, really good one, I would be the happiest person in the world. It's just that most of them are horribly (in my opinion) done, and ridiculously trite. |
