Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I enjoy reading other people's stories, and am delighted to betaread almost anything, so long as I know the fandom. However, please run the story through some spell check before bringing them to me. Please have written your story in either English or Japanese. I'm afraid that I couldn't read, let alone beta, any other language. XD
Also, please take a look at the Would Rather Not section below--I'd really rather not beta those either. (I've got nothing against you writing them; I would just rather not read them. Sorry.)
Finally, when you make a request for me to beta your story, please tell me the fandom, pairing (if there is any), and basic outline of your story so that I can decide if I can beta it. Please also include other information that you feel might be important—for instance, if your story in movie based in a fandom, and that fandom is on my list but I only know the book version, we might run into some problems if I try to beta that story for you. This situation can be easily avoided if you mention when making your request that your story is movie-verse.
My category list is currently in the works, but if your story is in one of the more general categories (i.e. Jane Austen, Misc. Anime/Manga, David Eddings, etc.), please check with me that I know the specific work you're using. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have an eagle eye for grammatical errors, and I can give constructive criticism for improvement in plot, character, style, etc. I can give different points of view on a story if the author wishes to hear multiple ways in which a story can be interpreted and viewed. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I can be far too critical, poking at things that really don't need to be poked at. But I'm learning to rein in those tendencies. ;) |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Friendship, family--things that deal with the characters themselves fascinate me. Parody and humor too. And adventure and mystery. ...In all honesty, I have no real preferences.
I also love creativity. I would be more than willing to read the weirdest, most bizarre thing ever—just make sure it's spellchecked and grammatically correct. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Self inserts, crossovers, and Mary Sue/Gary Stu fics. And pointless, plotless, sappy romantic fics. Not that I've got anything against romance--just the drowning in fluff. |
