Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am happy to read anything, within reason.
For example, if English is not your first language, but you send me a story with a good plot and characters, I will edit your story to the best of my abilities. However, if you deliberately set out to desecrate the English language (e.g. by using "chat speak"), I will not only ignore you, but probably kill you as well.
As per content, I am very open-minded. I know the world is a mad place, full of squicky things. But there are some things that should not be written about on a site where children run riot (such as Fanfiction.Net). You know what they are - don't send them to me and expect a reply. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am passionate about Harry Potter, and if a fic is not labelled as AU, I will tell you all the ways in which it breaks JKR's laws. I am also fussy when it comes to grammar. If you like poetry, you may like my style, which has been described as rather "lyrical". |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
When reading closely, I tend to go slowly. Expect no more than 2000 words of chapter per week, particularly if you want me to do more than check grammar, spelling and canon-compliance, but characterisation, continuity, setting et cetera. English is my first language, and as I was raised on UK English, I may be weak when it comes to proofreading US English. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I would like to beta Harry Potter stories, because I know the most about this fandom. And since I'm quite pressed for time, I would much rather only beta shorter stories (under 10K). But I have done novels in the past, and I'm quite happy to do them again - just message me and we'll figure something out. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I'd prefer NOT to beta a smut-based story, or to be expected to make comments beyond basic grammar and spelling when it comes to a smut scene. |
