Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm a college student who would like to help others in their writing by reading through Silmarillion based stories. I am good at finding inconsistencies in plot and grammar, as well as help with wording and word choice. I have been writing fanfiction for a number of years, and have been around the mill as for the styles I have read and written. I will beta thoroughly, mostly giving suggestions and hints as to how I would fix something to improve wording. I may make a lot of comments on a piece of writing, but it is author's prerogative to change what they will. I only provide a second set of eyes and a second viewpoint on a story. As is shown in my own writing, I love to write about Macalaure and the other Noldor of the First Age and before, and so I would preferably not read anything about Numenor or the other realms of Men. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am good at helping in sentence/paragraph structure and word choice. I am very good at taking out fluff and needless language (thanks be to three years of chemistry classes). Otherwise, think of me as a human thesaurus. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I am not a great proponent of canon, rather I use the characters and what situations they are in as guidelines for my writing. I am not a strict dates person, either. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I would prefer stories about elves of the First Age, most preferably those of Feanorian persuasion. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
While I have read The Hobbit and the Trilogy, I have read the Silmarillion 7 times. I really don't want anything outside of those books. |
