Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta reader, I read things more critically than I would normally. I am quick to point out inconsistencies, spelling and grammar mistakes, and poor story structure. I also try to look for the positive things about a story, as I feel that an author can benefit from hearing their strengths as well as their weaknesses. If you want me to betaread something, be sure that you're okay with me pointing out things that I feel could be changed. If not, just wait for me to review it when you officially post it; I'll be less critical. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have a good eye for editing. I can spot a spelling or grammar mistake a mile away, and I know poor sentence structure when I see it. If you use the same word to describe something repeatedly, or if you aren't using enough adjectives, or if you mix up "to" and "too", you can believe that I'll see it. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm sometimes nice to a fault. I don't do this as often as I used to, and as a betareader I am definitely more hardcore, but every now and then I hold back and don't say exactly what needs to be said. Sometimes a person just needs to be told that their story is terrible, and I don't really have the heart to be so blunt. In those situations, I often point out the weaknesses, but I can't crush someone by telling them straight out "This sucks". |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer to read South Park stories, but I'm not incredibly picky. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Hardcore slash stories. If you want me to betaread your slash, be warned that I do NOT enjoy overly detailed sexual content. |
