Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I don't usually beta for fandoms outside the ones that I follow, the few times I have, it's been on basic things like grammar, punctuation, some continuity and story/character glitches that I may notice. When beta-ing in my fandoms, you can expect to get more commentary on characterization, dialog, story setting, etc. I tend to be very biased towards one aspect of the fandom universe or towards one character, so my strengths with undoubtedly lie there should that be present in the fic.
The easiest way for me to beta: you send me the fic via e-mail and I will go over it, leaving commentary in a different text color throughout on points of the story I find significant. I will wrap up with my overall opinion and you, the distinguished author, can take it from there, or follow up with me if you prefer. :)
I will beta up to 3 fics at the same time. After three beta requests, I will go on hiatus until the beta-ing has been completed. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I LOVE writing, and thus...I beta. :P I'm a nut about spelling and grammar. In my opinion, a good story is not just an enjoyable story, it's a READABLE story. Readability increases enjoyment. I'm also good at suggesting ideas for the way a story has been crafted, if the author so desires that kind of input. I'm good with characterization if the character is someone I'm familiar with. I'm best dealing with fics that have a lot of action, suspense and twists. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Shippy stuff, unless it's a comedy, but even then, so-so. I can't deal with reading a lot of hardcore smut, sorry.
Regarding actual beta-ing TIME, depending on when I get the fic, I usually beta during the morning or end of the day. Depending on the length of your fic, you can expect to get my response in around 2-4 days. If you need something beta'd quickly, I might be not the right beta reader, since I tend to take a bit of extra time going through a story. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
These are the only fandoms I'm willing to beta for, in order of favorite show and categorized by favorite character and genre:
LOST: Any of the Tailies especially Ana Lucia, Sawyer, Sayid, Jack, Kate. (alternate universe, action/adventure, drama, humor, supernatural, light romance, CRACK!FIC YES PLEASE, DARK!FIC. No hardcore slash please.) I'm partial to AL centric fics especially, and I will seriously jump on you if she is not in character. :P (unless it's intended)
DARK ANGEL: Max, the original Ben. (alternate universe, action/adventure, drama, humor, crack!fic. No hardcore slash please.) Willing to read Max/Logan but not seriously a fan.
STAR TREK VOYAGER: Seven of Nine, The Doctor, Harry Kim, Tuvok, B'Elanna Torres, The Hirogen. (alternate universe, action/adventure, drama, humor, angst, light ship, CRACK!FIC YES PLEASE. No hardcore slash please.)
STARGATE SG1: Sam Carter, Daniel Jackson, Teal'c, Replicarter, Replicators. (alternate universe, action/adventure, supernatural, drama, angst, CRACK!FIC, DARK!FIC. No hardcore slash please.) |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I won't read anything with a lot of smut in it or unnecessarily gory violence. I can't get through reaaaaally heavy-on-the-romance fics or overtly slashy fics.
Ship-wise, seek another beta for Jate and Skate centric fic. |
