Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a sticker of the Eats, Shoots, and Leaves variety, with a strong love of grammar and a good ear/eye for the natural flow of words. I do comments in-fic in a different colored ink and will generally offer what grammar, syntax, and general positive/negative notes I can on your fic. I do my best to have a quick turn-around, though honestly, I expect that if you have the sense to seek a beta-reader, you've already at least attempted to make your draft readable before sending it out. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm very, very good at grammar and syntax. The passive sentence is my mortal enemy. I'm an English major, and I know the difference between good and bad writing. I have a natural sense for how words work and fit together. I'm also good at pointing out both the positive and negative aspects of what I'm reading. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I don't really have the time to do nitpicky beta work, such as diving into close-reading questions of your work in order to help you fix little details. I'm also not that great with helping people figure out their plots. At least I don't think I am. I've never really tried, either way. Also, I can't write smut. So I don't think I'd trust myself to beta it. I also have trouble visualizing spacial situations, like fight scenes, so that might not be the best thing in the world either. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Not particularly. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Smut, anything super-action-y, any super-long epics. |
