Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I generally read things through a couple of times, even on my own fics. First I skim and then I look for specific details.
I don't have a whole lot of preference toward chapter length. Long and short chapters are both okay with me.
While I am well aware that a Beta reader is supposed to help catch mistakes and such, it irritates me if it's evident that the author hasn't bothered to check over the work as well. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm pretty good at catching spelling and grammar mistakes, both in my fics and others. I can also help with things like sentence structure and such.
I can help a bit with characterization, especially if you write about a character I'm familiar with. Also, I may be able to help with OC characterization if you are either far enough in your fic or send me info about your OC. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I read kind of fast sometimes, so I might rush through a chapter occasionally and miss a mistake or two. If I noticed that I missed something, though, I usually try to go back and fix it later.
Sometimes when I write I get writer's block pretty easily. However, reading a fic for someone else can help me get over my block. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Um... Not much to say here, except I guess I'm more biased towards fics that include characters I like.
I also like stories that can follow a book/game/show fairly accurately but still have unique additions to them.
AUs that actually resemble the fandom you're writing for are always interesting. Just make sure, for example, that if you write a Pokémon AU that you still have Pokémon in your fic. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Super crack fics. Mildly crack is okay (I even have a few mild cracks), but don't go overboard, please.
Also, please no OOC or character bashing. Or any bashing, for that matter. I especially hate shipping bashing - so you like Pokéshipping and I like Orangeshipping; don't bash Orangeshipping (or Kenji) in your fic, please. I also hate shippers who act like their ship is the only one that can possibly work.
And while I love OCs to death (I have tons of them), I won't beta read anything that has a Mary Sue in it. Also, please do not send me self-inserts; while they can be good if done right, they usually AREN'T done right, and turn into Sues.
AUs that are so AU that they are almost original fiction are kind of annoying, too. |
