Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
My name is Mai, pronounced 'may'.
I have been reading and writing for a very long time (longer than I wish to admit).
When I read something, I will first determine the flow of the story; does it move along well from one plot point to another? That will always be the first thing I will look for, since a story is not a story with no flow; spelling and grammar come later for me.
My only expectations for anyone looking at me as a Beta Reader is that you, the author, be patient. My second is that you need to come forth to me with an open-mind. I don't want to make suggestions for certain places to have you shove it all back in my face; if you don't want to take my suggestion, tell me why! I promise, I will not judge you for why, maybe help you word it better so it fits better with the rest of the theme.
I will jump through hoops for you to make your creation work if you can promise me you will be patient and polite with me. |

My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I have dyslexia that I don't often catch. Just so you know. The fear of said dyslexia has made me something of a crazed perfectionist when writing; I have taken down stories on this and my FictionPress account because I didn't like the way they sounded to me as a reader. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I can do romance. And it doesn't have to be straight fluff/lemony goodness. I do generic romance, supernatural, fantasy ... well, just about anything, really, but those are my strengths. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
While I don't mind gay romances, I could NOT tell you how to make things work with those. I generally avoid those like the plague, since yaoi especially has gotten WAY too overdone. However, I don't mind reading through on a general spelling/grammar basis. |
