Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta-reader, I like to study specific parts of a story, and find things that other people, including the author, may not realize are missing or incorrect. Anyone who wants me to beta for them must be serious about their story, and must be willing to listen to constructive criticism.
I don't mind slash. In fact, I rather enjoy it.
I'd prefer to beta for a story whose characters I enjoy.
If I don't believe that you have portrayed your characters correctly, I will tell you. If you want me to beta for you, I believe you should keep your characters IN character. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm big on spelling and punctuation, grammar and sentence structure. I will not hurt your feelings, but I also will not hesitate to tell you that something is poorly written, or poorly constructed. I think that I am |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Sometimes I have trouble letting a person know exactly what I believe is "wrong" with a story, if I think it will hurt their feelings. I don't like to tell others what they are doing wrong, but I always try to be honest, and communicate my beliefs in the easiest way for both of us. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I would prefer to beta stories concerning characters or pairings that I enjoy, but that doesn't mean I won't beta stories that have those that I don't. I would prefer stories that aren't overdone, and storylines that intrigue me. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I don't think there is necessarily one type of story that I wouldn't read. If I don't think that a story was taken seriously when it was written, I would prefer not to beta for that particular story. I won't beta stories about real people from movies or television shows, only characters. |
