Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta-reader, I tend to fix grammer/spelling errors and other minor mistakes. I try not to change too much of someone's style, but I am a stickler for grammer/spelling/etc. If there is something you are doing very well with, I will point it out.
My biggest pet-peeve is improper captalization. Please, please captalize the first letter of names! I expect that anyone who is looking for a beta-reader can at least cover the basics such as captalization. Also, I do not wish to recieve any stories written in any type of chat speak or shorthand. My eyes and brain just aren't up to the task. Please use proper English! |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm very good at catching typos and spelling/grammer errors. I've worked as a yearbook editor for three years, and my eyes are pretty good at determining what someone is trying to say. I know a lot of writers struggle with diagloue. I'm very good at splitting it up and formatting it so that it flows well.
Catching mistakes and having comments for writers is what I do best. I'm also willing to help with plotting stories. I know it sometimes helps when you're stuck to talk it out. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Diction (aka word choice). I don't usually get very picky with word choice. If anything seems funky, I will mention it, but I'm not going to be mentioning over usage of adverbs, etc. Every writer has their own rules about word choice. My goal is to help writers have a readable, understandable story without any glaring errors. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer stories that are suspense, mystery, thriller, action/adventure, romance, horror, or tragedy. I will do some parody, but not a lot of humor. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Violence doesn't not bother me, nor does foul language, but I will not betaread slash.
I do not wish to recieve any stories written in any type of chat speak or shorthand. My eyes and brain just aren't up to the task. Please use proper English! |
