Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm a very casual beta reader - meaning I won't come across like an English teacher. I will, however, go through the material scene by scene and make suggestions for things that I feel are choppy or awkward. I always lose interest in stories that are weakly spelt, organized, or formatted, even if the story itself sounds amazing. I want to change that, and give all writers the opportunity to truly shine. I will normally leave a little bundle of comments and suggestions either near the line, or at the end of the section, most of which are generally positive. I try to remain as professional as possible, and only criticize where necessary.
Anyone wishing to use my services will only need to drop me a pm or email me. The only thing that I will request is that you've already run the story through some form of a spell checker. It makes it go faster for me, which makes it faster for you. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I excel at the basics: grammar, spelling, sentence structure. I like to make sure that the story flows as naturally as possible, and has as few continuity errors as possible. I also try to keep all the characters in character.
I'm working on a multi-chapter epic of my own right now, so I'm used to keeping lots of plot and characters in line. If you need a hand de-tangling plot bunnies, I'm your girl. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I tend to be quite sparse with my scene and character descriptors, but I know how to use them when necessary. (I blame it on the fact that I make comic books...) |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I love to work with most cartoon and anime series, as I am a rabid nerd about them. I also like to work with supernatural series. (Moonlight, Pushing Daisies, etc.) |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Anything in the line of a soap opera or popular 'life' sitcoms and dramedies. (things like The OC, etc.) I don't watch them, so I feel that I wouldn't be able to get into the story that I'm beta reading properly. |
