Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I will always read the piece all the way through at least once before I actually start editing. So, it may take a day or two to get back a response, but it really shouldn't take any longer than that. The first thing I always look for is word choice. Spell checking doesn't point out when the wrong word is used, it's only checking to see if everyhting is spelled right. I also check word choice because they are so many ways to say the same thing. Such as dialogue, it doesn't always have to be "he said" and "she said", because that gets kind of boring. I also just look at the overall flow of the story. And if anyone also needs someone to bounce ideas off with, then that's fine too. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I think I'm very good at making things flow and making things more colorful. I have a large vocabulary and I'm not affraid to use it. I'm also pretty good at grammar. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Spelling is not my strongest suit, but I blame that mostly on vowels. Sometimes they sound alike and I get them mixed up. I use spell checker and dictionaries. I also think I'm weak at writing space battles, pretty much battles in general. I'm trying to work on that though. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I would love to beta crossovers, but only of universes I know of. There's no point in me trying to give tips on things I don't understand. So, I guess Harry Potter, both Stargates, Highlander, Heroes, Babylon 5, new Battlestar Galactica, Buffy, Firefly, Starwars. I would especially prefer anything with either stargates (but not with them only crossed with eachother). |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Unless I can get into them, pretty much anything that is not a crossover. I'm also no longer the biggest fan of stories that primarily focus on ships. |
