Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As I'm just starting out I don't have a "style" per say. However, what I'd probably do is use "Track Changes" on Word to edit/make comments on a file-- so you can see the markups and hte original. I'm a big believer in reading a thing through once without commenting, then going back and editing the second time. And the third. And the fourth (Et cetera).
My expectations are that you are using proper storytelling style/grammar. I hate reading chunks of text where three characters speak at once but it's all mashed into one paragraph. If your story doesn't look like a typical book you'd pick up, then please don't send it to me. I'd like to help people who are already decent writers become BETTER writers. I'm not trying to teach a master course in creative writing. I write pretty high-quality stuff myself (though not perfect, there’s always room for improvement) and that’s what I’m hoping to review. I don't care what your story is RATED, but it's got to be written maturely. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I actually work in publishing, so I've seen/done professional editing. I'm great with believable dialogue and keeping characters in-voice. I'm very good overall with character, plot errors, and grammer. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm terrible with spelling. However, I have spell checkers for that. Sometimes I read too fast, but I read things multiple times to make up for it. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
No, but I'd like to read stories in my areas of interest, so please contact me with what your story is a fan-fiction of FIRST. If it's something I've written about it's a safe bet. I'm pretty interested in any of Joss Whedon's work, I like the X-men though I haven't read the comics in years. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Slash of any sort. Non-Canon relationships (though I can be flexible on this matter). Anything without standard punctuation/grammer. |
