Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
While I haven't beta'd a story for quite awhile, I have recently been correcting and helping my classmates with their papers constantly. I tend to read through a paper twice. The first time, I get a feel for what the writer is trying to say and correct the most obvious mistakes. The second time, I comb through more carefully, trying to pick out every little spelling and grammatical error, as well as inconsistencies in the writing, plot, or flow. I make corrections in a different color, so that the original and the correction are obvious, so that the writer can chose whether to accept my suggestion or go with what they had to begin with. I also try to pick out the greatest parts and complement them, explaining why I liked them, to show that I'm not only looking for mistakes.
I'm currently in college as well as working part time, so my free time is pretty limited. However, I actually like reading through and correcting other people's writing as practice for my own. Sometimes, I even find it fun. I am very thorough. |

I am naturally not a good speller, but this just makes me more careful to double check everything I write or read for errors. I can also get a little too complex with my sentence structures and a little adjective heavy. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'd prefer to read stories that are about characters that I am interested in, or at least know something about. However, I am open to beta'ing stories about shows or books that I am not familiar with, as long as I am not expected to point out inconsistencies between the character and/or plot connected to the category, just grammatical and writing errors. |

As of right now, I'm pretty much open to anything. I'm sure I'll develop likes and dislikes, at which point, I will update this. |
