Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm very style-driven when reading a story; how it looks and feels put together matters a lot more to me than the specifics. Long story short, I focus on the big picture when reading through a chapter: does it flow well? Do the characters seem consistant? Does the plot even make sense? Whether or not the story is jarring at a point is more important to me since it affects how well the audience reads the story. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Like I said above, I'm good at pointing out errors in flow and depth when reading a story, since those aspects are more important to me as a writer, and I've always felt they were also the hardest to work on, making advice in this area a lot more useful and important. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm bad with explaining how to fix a problem - that is, I can spot an error a mile away, but I have difficulty explaining how it is a problem. In other words, you may have to do a bit of legwork when reading my responses in order to 'get' them. I'm still a novice writer myself, so I can be a bit hard to understand at times. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I've always preferred reading more light-hearted stories, such as comedies and adventure stories, but I'm not picky, since I've been known to dabble in a bit of angst and drama as well. So long as it isn't too dark 'n' angsty, I'm fine with reading it. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
NC-17, lemons, yaoi/yuri, crossovers, most AUs, etc. - pretty much anything that pushes the boundaries a little too far. I can be persuaded, however.... |
