Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
-NOTE- Currently not accepting requests, as my plate is full.
Been writing on and off for five years now, though it doesn't look it. I delete half of what I post because I'm so critcal and there's easily a dozen stories I never posted at all that I used merely as spring boards to progress my writing skills more quickly.
I've beta'd for:
Inanimate/Obsessor - nearly all of her work, which can be found on ffn, aff, and dA.
Yami-Hitokiri - her story "Contamination"
BarkingPup - her story "On Location"
Mrs. Terwilliger - her story "Jhomanji"
As I said, I'm deeply critical and read all work very thorougly, but I usually read through the file in one go so I'd appreciate files to be no more than thirty pages. I also have a tendency to make a lot of comments. Don't forget; I'm reading this for the fun of it too. Expectations? Don't be a jerk, and make a note that I beta'd. Give credit where credit is due. My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I seem to have a certain skill at finding those pesky mispelled words the original author will miss. I'm also fairly decent at proper grammar, and I can fall into a story easily enough so I can see the difference between your style and plain old bad grammar. I'm adept at understanding all viewpoints--first, second, and third--and I can respond to your story as a conscious reader as well as a beta. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Though I try not to, I often take my time in returning a file, so allow for a period of silence from me. If given a sharp poke, however, I'll usually return the file to you within the next few days, real life allowing. Speaking of real life, I'm in high school still, and a member of my school's band. During the spring semester (late December through June) things are pretty easy, so if the rest of my classes are nice to me I can be rather speedy. During the fall semester (late July through December) I take part in marching band, and as we're a nationally recognized program, things get a bit...busy. So give me some time; I need to sleep at some point, don't I? Also, keep in mind I am still a virgin, so while I'm willing to beta sexual stories, my knowledge will be limited. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer action/adventure, spiritual, drama, angst, tragedy, general, suspense, horror, and to an extent Sci-Fi. I will do romance and humor, as long as both are tasteful and follow some kind of straight line. In romance I prefer slash/yaoi, but I will do het. If the situation calls for it, I believe I can also do femslash/yuri, but don't push your luck. I like AUs too, as Yami-Hitokiri can testify, but let's not make it so weird the original characters are stripped of everything but their name. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I prefer no femslash/yuri. On specific pairings please inquire in a note or email. I like stories with some kind of plot, though drabbles are always fun. No Mary-Sues or whatever the male equivalent is these days (the name seems to change through the fandoms). I'm no stranger to profanity or violence, but if the violence is linked to sex in some fashion, I'm pretty much out, hypocritical though that may be. I'll add to this and my preferrenes some other time. |
