Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As you can tell from my preferences, I have a large assortment of fandoms I am willing to beta. I do expect for the work you wish me to beta-read to be at least at a moderate writing level. No kid words only fanfics for me. I check spelling and grammar before I actually pay attention to what I read, so I'm not a very happy camper if I find a lot of spelling and grammar mistakes in one spot. I don't mind the occasional mistake, but a whole bunch in just a few paragraphs? No thanks. People who use Microsoft Word DO have spell checkers, and for those who use writing programs that don't have spell checkers, at least grab a dictionary if you're not sure how to spell something. I don't enjoy correcting a a ton of mistakes on one document. Also, I'm the kind of person that even if I beta read something, if I like it enough, I will hunt it down once it's posted and review to give my opinion there as well. Also, i expect you to KNOW what you are writing about. I've seen too many people, myself included, start writing fanfics about something they don't know anything about. It really irritates me. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
i'm read at a decent speed. i'm pretty good at spotting spelling and grammar mistakes, as well as mixed-up words. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
i'm a sucker for sappy romances. Sex scenes between fave pairings also hit my weak point... so long as they are GOOD sex scenes. Sometimes i am unable to concentrate on reading fanifcs, at which point i take a break from them and do something else, such as playing video games, reading actual books, etc. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Romance is my favorite category of reading, but i will read read just about any genre and give my personal opinion. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
There are certain pairings i don't like, so do be careful what you send me. If it's a pairing i don't like, i WILL refuse to read it because i will be biased against it, which will effect my view of the entire fanfic. Not a good thing for a beta. I'm also not a huge fan of mysteries, but i'm willing to try anything once. |
