Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta-reader, I will edit a story for mechanical aspects like grammar, spelling, syntax, and stylistic flow as well as some characterization and try to catch any plotholes. However, I will not simply tear up a story if it does not meet certain standards of English; I want to help make it the best it can be while maintaining the author's basic prose style and individuality. I will not completely rewrite a story to meet my needs/expectations. I am here for grammar/spelling and to provide helpful criticism to bring a story to its full potential. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I can help with grammar and spelling. I am a nut about that sort of thing. I can also aid with syntax (sentence structure) and can give constructive criticism on making the story flow better. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I will admit that I am not great when it comes to writing/developing characterization, but I know when it is off, at least. Depending on how long the story is, it may take more than a day or two for me to get through it and give enough good criticism. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I adore romances (no sex scenes, though, please; PG13 is the rule here). My favorite thing to read is fluff, but I do like substantial plots. Humor is always amusing for me, and angst is also nice to read sometimes. I'm pretty easy to please as far as stories go. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I do have some restrictions as to what I read: I will not beta anything above PG13 or anything with slash (gay/lesbian pairings). Otherwise, I am pretty open to most things as long as they are not extremely crude. |
