Before this quesiton, I had no idea that there was a 'style' to beta-reading...haha, well, anyway. You send the fic, I read it over, I leave suggested alterations and comments in another color, I send it back; I'm not sure what else I should be indicating with this answer, really. As for expectations, I'm studying for a career path that requires knowledge of professional editing techniques. It'd be fair to expect that I'd pick up on most grammar/spelling/style/structure-esque mistakes.



***I'm getting increasingly busy, so I have less time for line-by-line editing, which I will only accept in certain cases. If you want general points, notes on characterization, etc, we'll talk about it.

I think characterization is one of my stronger points. If something feels strange, I'll point it out. I tend to be a veritable human dictionary and/or syntax restructurer for most people as well, so if you have word choice issues or strange sentence setups, I can help with that.

You can bounce ideas off me all you like, and I'm good at critiquing or shooting down ones that don't work. But I'm no good at coming up with actual constructive ideas. I'm not really good with mincing words either, so if you don't like things blunt, I'm probably not a good beta for you.

I don't particularly have favorites versus things I'd never touch, to be honest. Het and gen, mostly, and I'm typically okay with most genres. If you have a funky writing style and you're unsure about its effect, I'd love to read some of that. Since...er, I guess that's all I write and all, haha.

Ahaha, this could be long. Uhmmm. This is shallow, but if it's a pairing or character whom I really, really don't care for...I might not be too interested. I dislike 95% of slash, so I'm no good with that either. I can't stand sappy romance, and I'll keep a ten foot pole between myself and anything remotely resembling that. If your writing style's heavy towards the...flowery prose description rather than the telling through showing side, I uhm, probably won't be able to get through it without critiquing the actual style too heavily, so that might not work out too well.
