Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I beta for grammar and spelling ('ans' instead of 'and') although I'll be the first to admit I am not the greatest in either of these two areas myself. I'm also very knowledgeable about the particular fandoms I belong to even if I haven't written stories for all of them. I'll be quick to point out any glaring continuity or factual errors in a piece of work and a lot of time I'll be paying attention to these more than simple spelling mistakes. That's just how I roll. I will raise attention to things like 'OOC' behaviour but only if an author has explicitly stated they are concerned about proper characterisation. If the story is meant to be 'crack' or an alternate take on a character then it's purely up to their discretion. Same goes for character development. Like everyone I have my favourite pairings and characters but I can remain objective and such things will not affect my advice.
Also, if you hadn't already noticed I'm English so I write using UK. English as my language. Considering the majority of people on this site are probably American I can take into account the differences in the spelling of certain words. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have a good memory for events inside the main continuity of things so if an author makes a factual slip or continuity error I can pick up on it.
I'm unemployed and I don't sleep much, also I work fast. I can give feedback to people quickly.
If an author is looking for a brutally honest beta then I'm for them. I don't like to pussy-foot around when giving constructive criticism or help. |

Like I said, my own grammatical skills are not the greatest. If you're REALLY concerned about your own you might prefer someone else.
I can work fast but not always consistently. I'm more suited to doing one-shots or short stories. 25+ chapter epics with 100,000 or more words are definitely out. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Introspective stories, preferably drama or angst, focusing on a singular characters thoughts. Also stories that focus a lot on two people and their relationship which does not have to be romantic at all.
I do like romance however and I'm fine with any type of pairing. (Yaoi, Yuri, Het etc.) I generally prefer more minor pairings though.

Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I generally like to stay away from the really huge pairings in a fandom. Using Naruto for example: NaruSasu, NaruSaku, NaruHina and so forth. Thats not to say if someone recommends me a really, really good story of one of these I won't read it, I'd just prefer not to beta one.
I said I liked angst but not in huge doses and not teenage in nature. |
