Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I have a decent amount of experience as a beta, though significantly less so recently. I will beta for style, spelling, grammar, accuracy...pretty much whatever you want.
I can sometimes work on short notice, though not always as my schedule and/or sleeping habits permit. If you have a deadline that you want or need something by, please let me know with at least two to three days warning.
Please, if you want me to beta something for you, at least run it through a spell-check or give it a once-over yourself. It helps me immensely if I know what the word or sentence or paragraph is trying to say.
Finally, if contacting me for beta-reading services please include the following:
-Basic information about the story, whether it's in progress or in development (what's happened if it's in progress, and a general idea of where it's going, either way). I understand that the plotline itself may be up in the air, but a vague description of the plot is helpful.
-How long the chapters tend to be.
-How often you tend to update.
-How quickly you will need the chapters back.
-What you want me to beta-read for (SpaG, style, canon-compliance, etc).
-How honest you want me to be (on a scale of 1-7, with 1 being brutally honest). |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Not perfect, but significantly above average, grasp on grammar, spelling, etc. If the story is within a text that I am familiar with (see below) I am usually proficient enough to know most of the history, facts, etc. associated, and/or to look up details I'm uncertain of. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My SpaG skills are not perfect. I can and sometimes will nitpick phrases or scenes that don't seem to fit. I am not well-versed in many fandoms. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I would prefer to beta stories in the three areas I'm most familiar with: Harry Potter, Labyrinth, and Twilight. Within those, I will beta-read almost any pairing, character, rating, or genre (exceptions below), though I prefer those that are at least mostly canon-compliant. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I will not beta anything that uses rape, abuse, self-injury, or suicide as a Convenient Plot Device. |
