Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I will NOT beta read slash fiction, fiction that is blatantly anti-Christian, or is so poorly written that it would make an English teacher commit hari-kari; i.e, you must be basically literate and adept enough to more than barely pass junior high English. I prefer to use Microsoft office so that if you wish the changes made tracked, it is easier on both of us. I can beta for fics where I am unfamiliar with the universe, though it is probably best if a beta knows the characters. Please, do not submit anything of a graphic nature to me. I don't need to know what goes on behind closed doors or to read anatomy lessons or to learn new curse words. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Logical story progression, facts, grammar, spelling. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Like everyone, there are certain words I will always give me problems and I consider optional grammar rules mandatory. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Gen Highlander, especially ones that are Methos centric. Quantum Leap, Avengers (Steed and Peel, not Thor and the Marvel lot), Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Doctor Who; but here I must state I am most familiar with Doctors Four, Five, Eight, Nine, and Ten, Blood Ties, Forever Knight, Buffy, Crossovers, Harry Potter, All Creatures, Original Trek or ones with Q in them, New Amsterdam, Dresden files (book or TV). |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Slash, excessively violent or profane ones, ones with graphic hetero sex. I absolutely WILL not read these, though I will allow for the fact that some characters are gay in the series itself. I can beta a Who fic with Jack in it, I just don't want to see what he gets up to, if you take my drift. |
