Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Generally, I prefer to read pairing stories. I've had experience with beta-ing for several years, and I've been told I do a pretty decent job.
As a beta-reader, I guess I just expect a standard level of respect. You do your job, and I'll do mine, basically. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm pretty good at catching mechanical errors, along with grammar and misspelled words. If I've read/seen the series, I can usually tell when the characters are in character, or if they've completely gone haywire and hold no part of their original personality. I'm also good with finding more "energetic" words, and turning "telling" into "showing". I definitely do my best each time I beta-read. When I correct mistakes, I'll correct them in a manner that shouldn't hurt the author's feelings or change the tone of the story. As a student of Psychology, I can also help with character/personality development. If you decide to do a serious topic about a mental disorder or mental health, I can help make it realistic. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I tend to grow bored with genres that don't interest me. Still, if there's something to hold my attention, such as good character development, then I don't mind reading it. Sometimes mistakes slide by me, since I'm definitely not perfect. If the writing is poor (and by no means is my own writing outstanding), then I may get bored as well. Still, a job is a job, and if I accept someone's request, I'll finish the job. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Definitely prefer pairing stories over anything else, particularly shounen-ai. I don't mind other genders of pairing though. Romance is good, as well as drama, angst, etc. I like dark stories! :D But I'm always up for a good laugh in the comedy section, too. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I'm not very good with scientific mumbo-jumbo. I'm willing to try and beta anything, so no worries. |
