Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Greetings! My name is Niham.
Basically, you can count on me to proof read your story for errors, typos, sentence fragments, and so forth.
When I beta read, I will not berate you for stupid mistakes. I look for the best parts of the story, as well the parts that need work. In other words, no matter how many errors, sentence fragments, et cetera you will always hear something positive.
There are plenty of ways we can do this. You can email me your work and I will highlight all of the changes that I have made. If you have Instant Messenger, we can use that to talk about your work. Or we can use ff.net's system too. It all depends on what works for you.
I cannot promise to catch every single error, but writing is very important to me so I'll do my best. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My strenghts are:
-Typo scanning
-Word count usage (like, how many times you used 'was' in a paragraph)
-Opening and ending lines
-Dialog
If you need help finding opening and ending lines, I can definately help. It's one of my favorite parts of writing. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
-Chunky paragraphs 7-10 sentences or more.
-Long chapters 10 pages+ (exceptions are possible)
I prefer the term "proof reading" over "editing" becaus I find it very difficult to critique other people's writing. For example, if I think you're story sucks monkey balls, I probably wont' give you an honest answer. I will, however, nit-pick for typos. That I can do without giving an opinion. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I really enjoy reading and writing:
-Oneshots
-Drabbles
-Short stories
-Anything Ichirukia (I'll take any other pairings, but Ichirukia is my favorite). |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I do not read 10 sentence paragraphs, Mary Suess, OC's, and/or 10+ page chapters (exceptions are possible). Also, please for the last time, QUIT asking me vague questions like, "Is my story good enough?" "Should I start over from scratch?" "Does my story suck monkey balls?"
You want to know some of the best advice I can ever give? Be confident in your writing. YOU are the writer. YOU call the shots because YOU are the first person who will ever read YOUR story. If YOU do not like it, if YOU do not believe it in every single word, then why the hell should I? |
