Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm big on grammar, spelling and sentence structure. My expectation is that you'll to be able to at least try to string a coherent sentence together and *will* actually go through your writing first before you ask someone else to. Betas are good because they catch things that you might have initally missed, but are useless if you haven't bothered to fix things first. Also, I will not fix your story for you, I will go over it, point out mistakes and make suggestions about what needs to be improved, you will have to be the one that goes back and improves it.
Anyways, I will make my suggestions, you can either take it or leave it.
I also ask that you have something physically written before you ask me to beta it, I can help with plot development (to a certain degree), but I usually work better with something in front of me. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Spelling, grammar, certain characterizations, my ability to pick up typos (depending on my level of alertness), whether words are used in the right context or not. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Run-ons, although I usually don't have problems picking them out in someone else's work, plot development for long-term stories, although I can pick out plot holes, comma splices (I like commas, what can I say?), descriptive lemons, nor am I a big gan of the loud moans and groans, so if you have a NC-17 PWP, I might not be your best choice, and alas, dialogue. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I work better with one-shots and drabbles in terms of plot-development, although I can do chapter-by-chapter editing for longer stories. Yaoi is definitely preferred ;), some het as long as that's not the main focus of the story, will do pretty much any genre; angsty and tragedy are a personal favourite. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Most het, het lemons, shota, certain pairings. For anyone in the Beyblade fandom: don't come to me with a Tyson, Max, or Kenny story. M-preg, characters transforming into the opposite sex, Mary-Sue's, yuri (just because the fandoms I like it for, I don't really read), if your story has more focus on an OC than it does the canon characters, I don't want it. No self-insertions, no over-used ideas. |
