Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
My beta-reading is mostly focused on plot, style and characterization, though I am rather good at spotting grammar and spelling mistakes. I am usually a kind reader, and will often make suggestions instead of demands (e.g. 'Maybe you'd better...', instead of 'you have to'). Regarding plot, I work with rapid-fire questioning, that is to say, I will ask a lot of questions to get an overview of what you're planning. Characterization is a must! I will point out bad characterization, and I want to know why a character is behaving in a specific way if I think that that behavior is OOC for said character.I don't want to receive something riddled with mistakes, a few typos are no problem, it happens to the best of us, but try to proofread your stories first. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am usually good at pointing out plotholes, or things that aren't logical in general. I am also familiar with a lot of characters, and if not, I will probably do my best to get a good grasp on their personality. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I am not a native English speaker, and while I have a good grasp on the language, I still make mistakes. I am definitely not the best person to go to when you have questions about the correct use of specific words, or things that are typical for the English language (so no asking about the correct words for certain animals, foods, plants, branchnames or shops) |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer stories with a plot, although I am certainly not averse to one-shots and will probably beta them anyway. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I'd rather not read incest, lemon and lime, rape and abuse fics and horror fics. As a rule, I'd rather not beta-read anything M-rated. |
