Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello, prospective clients! Life Song here, and I'm offering my services to you as a beta-reader for all those in need of editing! You may rejoice! I kid, I kid. Seriously though, if you have no one to help proofread your stories, you can always count on your friendly neighborhood Life Song.
I can personally guarantee up to 99% accuracy all corrections I make. If that's not good enough for you, well, you must understand that no one is perfect and no matter how many people look at your work, some mistakes will slip through the cracks. Read any published work and you will know exactly what I am talking about.
I will also offer to confer with anyone I work with about the content of the work, and I will give only constructive criticism. If you are the type that believes someone is flaming you if they believe your content is weak, please don't apply for my services. However, if you want someone to give it to you like it is, then by all means submit your request. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have an excellent grasp of the English language in both spelling and grammar. If you simply need someone to spell-check and grammar-check your work, you will find me a suitable choice.
I firmly believe that when it comes to deadlines that if you are early, you are on time. If you are on time, you are late. And if you are late, you are dead. If you set a reasonable deadline for the resubmission of your work, I will meet it without question. However, this will only apply for deadlines to be met during the week. I will not work weekends for you. The weekends are my time to do with as I see fit.
I take pride in my work, and I consider myself at minimum a perfectionist when it comes to the written word, and at worst an outright grammar Nazi. As an editor, however, I consider this a strength. You will know what you are getting after submitting a few of your pieces to me: corrected mistakes, concise edits, and suggestions for improvement. However, at the same time, your story is your own story. Feel free to take everything I say and do with a grain of salt. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
At times, my perfectionism tends to get the better of me, and I find myself at times completely rewriting certain sections of others' work, as if I am attempting to make sense of it with my own words. Please do not take this as an insult, and remember beta-readers are only there to make suggestions for you on how to improve your work. You may choose to implement what I write for you, or you may choose to completely scrap it. It does not matter to me.
I do not have a terrible amount of experience with this sort of thing. If I do not receive any instruction from my submitters on what exactly they want me to do for them, they may be surprised at what they receive back from me. As I develop as a beta-reader, and begin to learn what my clients expect from me, I'll be able to respond to their submissions more quickly. So don't be surprised if I email you a lot at first if you decide to work with me. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I would prefer works that I have experience in, but I will take on almost anything: anime/manga adaptations, movies, video games, etc. Please refer to my profile, or send me a private message if you have any questions on this. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Please don't submit 300 word chapters, or poetry, or other extra-short works to me. If you are unable to make such works readable, you need an English teacher, not a beta-reader. |
