Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm kinda going through my profiles and fixing all of the many things that have changed in the year or two that I wrote this thing.
I'm still writing my book, and I'm almost halfway through it (think Batman Beyond... only very, very different O.o), and I work on it when I'm not working on ff.net. I'm kind of a lurker out here- I read a lot, and thus read a lot of fanfiction, so I can say pretty confidently that I have high standards for what goes on my Favorites list. There may be 250+ stories up there, but almost all are oneshots, and almost all have my seal of approval. :D I reccommend checking it out. It gives you a pretty solid idea of how I write and what I like. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm really neurotic about details, and grammar, and a whole host of different elements of writing that one ever appreciates. I'm good with the little things, so much that sometimes I get a little distracted with the whole picture. But that's how I write, and that's what, more than often, I like to read. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My biggest weakness is saying no. I don't want to turn down every writer that I get, so more than often I wind up saying yes to everybody and having a huge backlog. So, in the future, if I don't get back to you, don't take it personally. It's that I've either got too much on plate from my own writing or beta-reeading others' fanfiction.
Beyond that, like I mentioned before, I'm picky. It's hard to get really into a peice of fanfiction if I'm not into a concept or it's not written well, so I'll probably tell you if I find that I'm having trouble reading your story. ESPECIALLY if the reason is because it's written poorly. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
One-shots are my favorite to read. Therefore, my favorite to beta. But I don't descriminate. I'll beta multi-chapters, if you want me to. :)
I'm not really picky about what I read, so long as it's (hopefully?) mostly correct, grammar-wise. Don't send me something that's just one huge paragraph. Or you don't separate paragraphs when you switch speakers in dialogue (ooh. Pet peeve). Obvious stuff like that. I mean, I'll still read it, but don't be surprised if I'm a little short with you. Something that apparent shouldn't have to be corrected by a beta.
(Oh, and I can be b*tchy if I want to. Sorry. It's my default setting. :\)
:D |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
There's a long list, but I'll try to sum it up as best I can. I've got nothing against well-written, fully fleshed-out O.C.s, but I'm warning you ahead of time: do not come to me with Mary Sues or Marty Stus. More than likely, you will be ignored. :/
I love grammar. I love CORRECT grammar more. I also love correct spelling, and Spellcheck, and Microsoft Word. So, unless English isn't your first language (in which case, I'll give a lot more slack :)), there is absolutely no excuse for you to send me something in all lowercase or (and I shudder to write it) l33t speak, please, don't contact me. If you're not going to put effort into what you write, I'm not going to put effort into beta-ing for you. :)
I know I sound harsh, but consider this my last warning sign before you decide to PM me and give me your fanfiction to beta. I'm a nice person, but only to the people I think deserve it. If you can earn it, I'll be happy to help you out. :D |
